Footpaths you won’t forget
In the broad region of Monemvasia, numerous footpaths guide the enthusiastic hiker to places worth visiting.
For a hiker, the exciting part of his hiking adventure is not limited to what he expects to find when he will finally reach his destination but mostly the beautiful places he will be passing through when walking along these footpaths.
Actually, a hiker can select his preferred footpath among a vast variety of suggested routes differing in destination and the degree of difficulty. This is a function of the distance and the morphology of the footpath involved – flat plain or mountainous. Yet, the hiker’s choice will depend also on whether a footpath has direction sign plates or no.
For the purpose of promoting hiking activities, local mountaineering and hiking clubs have been very busy tracing several amazing footpaths. They have also installed in place special direction sign plates, so that to make the footpaths more easy to follow. In addition, these clubs provide usually leaflets with a sketch of the suggested pathways.
One such route is the southeastern 10 km long footpath which starts from Agios Fokas and ends at Kastania Cave. This footpath is considered as of moderate difficulty, due mainly to the distance involved and its slight upward inclination. The hiker upon the arrival to his destination will have the opportunity to admire the beautiful Kastania Cave.
Needless to say that there are much more footpaths that are worth walking. And whats more, a hiker can always discover some new routes of interest by himself.
