Fishing in the Aegean Sea
Recreational fishing in the clear blue water of the Aegean Sea can be an interesting adventure. I admit that I’m not fun of fishing. Sometimes, the adventure can go wrong and this has happened to me quite a long time ago. Yes, I ended up by catching my own finger.
So, why do I tell you about the beauty of fishing? Well, because, for those who have the patience to complete the ceremony of preparing the bait and then to wait for a fish to catch, this activity seems to be really very rewarding. Not only because they have been provided with their lunch for free but mainly because they will talk about it for many years to come. Moreover, every time they will tell their glorious story to a friendly audience the fish catch becomes magically bigger and bigger.
When the day is bright and sunny, which is normally most of the time, I’m sitting usually at the main fishing boats harbor of Monemvasia drinking either coffee or the beloved drink of Greeks Ouzo. Just in front of me in the harbor’s narrow pavements fishermen of any age are exercising their hobby. Some of them with plain fishing lines, others with sophisticated reel equipment. Yet, all of them enthusiastic and patient. And why they shouldn’t really be particularly pleased; the harbor waters have lots of grey mullets (or “kefali” fish in Greek) and, moreover, amateur fishing requires no license.
