Baglamas: The great little musical instrument
Everyone knows Bouzouki but very few baglamas. However, if you have listened to Greek music then it is most probable that you may have heard the sound of baglamas.
The baglamas is a stringed musical instrument with three double strings (D-A-D) used mainly for playing rebetiko type Greek music. Concerning its shape, baglamas is a long necked bowl-lute similar to the bouzouki but much shorter than it. It is also pitched an octave higher. The method of playing the baglamas is by plucking.
